I had a Patrol that did a few odd things with the instruments when I hooked up the van. I found that the body was well insulated from the cassis. The easiest return path to ground was via the fuel gauge sender. Upgrading the ground between the chassis and body solved the problem

Glannie, I give you almost zero chance of dealer interest as they will blame the van.

Now, are you going to try my above test? Of course the issue needs to be present.

A friend of mine had that same problem with his Patrol sounds like a common problem.

Yes JR it was a common problem. The body ground was a small braided wire from the heat shield on the exhaust manifold to be he body. Mine had disintegrated with the heat. I would have thought they would have used something a bit more substantial.

Thanks everyone for your input.
I'll now see what the dealer says when it goes for a service next Wednesday.
It will be a different dealer in a different state so I "may" get some answers.

A'van,
That was a thought I'd had a long time ago but the situation hasn't presented itself yet; it may in the near future.

Glanyard,
if you haven't got it sorted by the time you get home you could try this.

Bring your rig to Carina.

You can tow my van down the Gateway and see if the problem persists.

As an added check I could tow yours with my MU-X. Not a D-Max but same front end.

Regards
