Australia's Best Caravan PaRK
During my recent trip I stayed at this park billed at the Best Australian Caravan park.
What would you expect?
$45/2/night off peak, $150/2 night peak? Yep you got that
Water-park, jumping pillow and lots of kids activities? Yep you get that
Beachfront location? Yep
Pet friendly? Yep
Brilliant amenities blocks? Hmm clean but located at the entrance to the park and I have doubts how they would cope in peak season, not enough shower or toilet cubicles, in the gents 5 of each for over 100 sites. We had a 300M hike to the amenities fortunately we have our own.
A slab or mat to each site? no
rubbish bins located conveniently to each site? no you have to walk to either end of the park.
Dump Point? Yes located near the park entrance.
Level easy to access sites? Mine was level but because of the way the kerbs are laid out and depth of site I had to jack my van up to get the jockey onto it.
Large sites? Yes but I had a site next to the rear gate so virtually had a site and a half.
Then again sites with a beach frontage are going to always be in high demand and while people will pay costs will be high.
Compare that with the next park we stayed at:
$42 a night
Large double slab for each tourist site
individual garbage bins
individual dump points to each site
Swimming pool, water front, boat ramp, jetty for park users.
Brand new amenities block with adequate facilities
Only bad thing we found was that there are quite a few permanent residents in neat tidy relocatable homes who are keen fisher persons who "have" to get up at weird hours to launch their boats to fish and manage to drag anchor chains across Aluminium boats for effect and who have to yell out to each other " Did Ya get me esky Ron?" "She'el be right Bas just gotta get me own" all at 3:27 am...
Maybe I dont fit the right demographic to fit into Van parks anymore?

TT,
I thought you would have mentioned the names and locations of those parks.
I'm sure there wouldn't be a forum rule against it.
For me, $30 P/N for the basics of clean amenities and security, is the limit otherwise I go looking for the show/sports grounds or a free camp. Sometimes it is necessary to go to plan B; drive on.

I thought about it then I thought better of it but if others feel the need to know then I could post the names.glanyard wrote:TT,

Plane B drive on. Yep done that a few times.... Golden rules never stop near a town unless there are other vans stopped. Never simply drive up what appears to be a rarely used country lane to get away from the Highway, inevitably someone will want access and rouse you before dawn to get their combine harvester past you...

we used to do that all the time in the "little" rig. 'Ol mate would rock up around 0600 with kelpie in the back of ute and pointedly ask our intentions. After a cup of tea and offer of breakfast the ice is broken and we were inevitably invited to stay at the homestead for as long as we liked.

I would like to know the names of the parks ...cant see any problem disclosing...they usually have plenty of review sites, including Badger's, where there is no restriction.
Bit of a puzzlement here as the Big 4 Coconut Resort in Cairns also has the same claim and, as far as We are concerned, lives up to it's reputation completely. Expensive? yes, fairly, but worth every cent.

In summer of 2014 we stayed at the Big4 directly opposite. We walked through FJ's CP to get to the beach. I recollect it being a bit tight for room with vehicles parked parallel to and partly on the access roads. I remember saying to Mrs OT that it was nothing special as a CP and we were better off in the cheaper Big4 park.... and it was nothing special.TramcarTrev wrote:Ok the "best" one Im referring to is the Tathra Beachside https://tathrabeachside.com.au/

Yeah.... But Tathra is a lovely spot. In future when visiting that part of the world I'll either stay at Bermagui or one of the State Forest free camps or even (heaven forbid) at one of the National parks camps eg Gillards Beach...Old Techo wrote:In summer of 2014 we stayed at the Big4 directly opposite. My vote if I have to make one re C.P's goes to the North Star at Hasting Point, Nth Coast NSW. Just rock up and unhitch and they have a valet service to park the van. Everything you can think of is on site. Well fees, that is another issue.

That's funny re Tathra. Many years ago when we bought our first caravan it was an expanda. We were due to leave by 10am but was absolutely pooring . We went and asked if we could have late check out or something - response no sorry we cant help you. Least to say we got drenched packing up.TramcarTrev wrote:Ok the "best" one Im referring to is the Tathra Beachside https://tathrabeachside.com.au/jock wrote:I would like to know the names of the parks ...cant see any problem disclosing...they usually have plenty of review sites, including Badger's, where there is no restriction.
