Caravan parks in Darwin

On previous trips to Darwin we have stayed at Howards Springs & Free Spirit CP.

We're heading up that way again this year (August) and looking for somewhere different to stay as we didn't like Howard Springs (to cramped) and Free Spirit is to expensive.

Has anyone stayed at the Oasis caravan park or Darwin Discovery Park? Are there any others you would recommend.

Your help would be appreciated.

Lee Point is a good one but may be expensive these days.
You cannot book in unfortunately. To get in you must be there by 8.00am as the office opens and hope they have a vacancy.
Hidden Valley is another but I haven't stayed there.
Koa caravan park in McMillan's Rd used to be a place to stay from as there are a lot of itinerants and workers living there. The workers start early in the mornings.
Another alternative is to park your van at Adelaide River CP, behind the road house, and commute the 90 kms each day.

Stopped at the Oasis CP for a month back in 2012.

Not the flashiest park but was more than adequate. At the time it was considerably cheaper than most other parks in Darwin.

It has changed hands since then as one of the owners passed away.

Would be happy to stay there again.

I like Howard Springs even though its a tad busy simply because your away from the coast and you dont get as much wind, sandflies, Mozzies, midges, crocs et all. Ohhh thats probably why its crowded....

Thats not such a bad idea actually, you're not that far to Palmerston (50km?), and there is lots to see and do unless the debauched nightlife of Darwin attracts you...

Is the Discovery Park what used to be Shady Glen? It was taken over a couple of years ago, so not sure what it's like now as it's been completely upgraded. Was reasonable before, although it was getting a bit old, so should be pretty good now with a makeover.

Last October, we stayed at the Hidden Valley park. Found it quite good with pretty good camp kitchen and facilities. However, being down in a valley, they do seem to report more midges than perhaps some of the other parks nearer to town. Just keep the Bushmans handy, like we did, and you'll be fine.

There is a caravan park very close to the wild life park at Berry Springs.
I have stayed there a couple of times but not since 2001.
90 kms Adelaide to Palmerston.

We stayed at the Oasis caravan park in 2013. We had a good sized site and the owners were very friendly. The amenities were oldish but clean and the park was generally well maintained. We also liked that it was set back enough from the highway that noise wasn't really an issue. We would stay there again.

Thanks for all the replies, I think at this stage I'll be booking into the Oasis Pk as we'll only be in Darwin for 4 nights stocking up on supplies etc. after being down on the Douglas Daly for 5 nights and up in Kakadu for a week. We'll then be heading to Litchfield. Once again thanks for your ideas.

Ah Litchfield; what a wonderful National Park, in particular Wangi Falls. Hopefully the wet season crocodile migration in that area has been normalized.
Edith Falls north of Katherine is a great place also; normally a safe swimming area.
