ATM Towing capacity
If the ATM of a caravan exceeds the total towing capacity of the vehicle by less than 100kg and the Tare is 360kg under the weight is it legal for the vehicle to tow this van if it is not fully loaded and so are there any vehicle or caravan insurance problems associated with this action. Brusso

Re: ATM Towing capacity
You may legally tow, but not exceed the lesser of: 1. The maximum tow weight specified by the 'Vehicle' manufacturer. 2. The maximum Tow weight specified by the 'Tow Bar' manufacturer. 2. The ATM of the trailer (Van) What ever is the lowest of the three, is the maximum legal tow weight.
E.G. # If the vehicle and tow bar are rated to tow 2000KG and the vans ATM is 1800Kg. then you can tow the van as long as you don't load it up heavier than the ATM. E.G. # If the vehicle and the tow bar are rated to 2000KG and the vans ATM is 2200Kg. Then you can only load the van to a maximum of 2000Kg not to the ATM of 2200Kg.
Cheers, Ozjohn..
