Just got back from gas place and the D-GAS unit was stuffed so had a new one fitted and can feel the difference straight away so we will see what the usage figures are in 3 weeks.

I hope it gets better for you Woodsie. Those figures aren’t much better than my 4.5 petrol Patrol. And given the price of diesel at the moment the petrol would be cheaper to run.

Hi All,

We tow a 21 foot Sterling with a 2009 NT DID Pajero.

Cruising at 95-100KPH, we use 15-17 LPH.

Very happy with those figures, as we haul a lot of stuff in the car, too! (Folding bikes, bbq's surfboards, etc, etc).

Cheers,
Sally

Towed the Littlehampton up to Burrum Heads and back generally at road speed where comfortable and backing off on the hills (ascending/descending) ... the Santa Fe avg. 12.6L/100km which is admirable.

We tow a 29' 5Th wheeler GTM around 4,000Kg
Tow vehicle Landcruiser Turbo V8 Diesel 2009.
3" exhaust and DP chip.
Power ?.... plenty with lots to spare.
Economy ... after 50,000Ks and 12 months on the road it varys from, Worst..23 %100k Best 17 %100k so without calculating a mass of figures the average must be around 20 litre % 100Ks.
These figures inclde towing around Tasmania, Victorian Alps, Snowy Mountains, and all the flats From Nullabour to Stuart Highway to N/W West Australia to outback Queensland and NSW Burke, Lightning Ridge, Cunnamulla, Birdsville, Simpson Desert (without van) Boudourie Longreach ect, so are fair representation.

After towing through all types of weather and road conditions I can only agree with the experts that it's the right foot that makes ALL the difference.
This Vehicle might be a little too big and specialised for some/most people, being V8 Tray top 4x4 diesel, but my previous one is still going strong on origional (6cyl) motor 42 years AND 700,000k later.
I expect this one will do the same. Unladen Fuel figuers are around 11ltr % 100ks.

This is obviously something of interest to many. We keep spreadsheets of every trip (anal-retentive maybe?). Our 2.5 litre diesel Discovery automatic towing a 17' Windsor Windcheater pop-top (1610kg ATM) returns an average of 14 l/100km. Worst figures on any trip have been around 17.5 l/100km towing into a strong headwind (Barkly Hwy and across the Nullabor). These figures have been achieved over numerous long and short trips since 2003.

The point of this thread is purely curiosity, as I would say that we all are happy with our fuel consumption or we would change vehicles. Some of us are obviously not in the position whereby we can financially ignore the amount of fuel we use.
Now have four dogs. Molly, Misha, Maddy and Morgan. Yep, they all travel with us!

Gday...

Discovery 3 TDV6 2.7ltr Turbo Diesel towing Golden Eagle 2700kg over scales.
Have averaged 14.7ltr/100km over about 4,500km travelling.
We sit on 85kph/1900rpm in drive with cruise control on - except if hilly then move gear to Sports mode which uses only first 5 gears.
Best has been 13.2ltr/100km from Melbourne to Numurkah and worst was 15.6ltr/100 pushing strong side winds from Wentworth to Broken Hill.

Cheers

Julie & John
