Post easy way to save fuel
Hi Y'all+
Sitting here on the lake at Kununurra. A few days ago we paid $1.95 pl at two places on the Gibb River Road. Here it's $1.46pl.
By far the best way to save fuel costs when doing the round Oz trip is to travel anti clockwise.. its much shorter.

does the direction of the " round the block trip" really make that much difference? I'm surprised, do others have more to say about the direction of the trip? would be interested....

Sparrow,
Its the Coriolis Effect.
Watch the way the water goes down the plug hole.
Does the reverse in the northern hemisphere.
You get better fuel consumption going one way than the other.
You are not fighting the effect of the C.E.
Would I lie to you?
Never!!!
Take it easy.

The humour of it all! Shorter this or that and what ever effects - LOL!

We agree with the Bussy & Rolex thoughts to a large extent - assist the local folks (some exceptions where blatant rip offs occur) as we know what it is like to live in more remote small towns.
Top up when you have the chance and all then get to make a start of a living at least.
Cut 'em out and next trip you might see a "Ghost town" where you last bypassed for the sake of a few cents or dollars. then what happens when you need some assistance.
It DOES HURTthe pocket, but locals are the first to assist when you strike misfortune etc in our experience so they are worthy of support!
Cheers - Mobi

Post Well now...
Some truth in it about traveling right round one way or t'other...
Actually, ANTI-clockwise is the longest route
And Clockwise is a shorter route...
See... If you go anti-clockwise you are on the OUTSIDE of the road - and clockwise you are on the INSIDE of the road... So you actually drive a longer perimeter (bigger circle) going anti-clockwise than you do going clockwise...
And that's a FACT...

Mobi,
I have to agree with that.
I have utilised the services of a few places over the years when I needed a hand.
They only helped I reckon because I stopped and gave them some business.
Its good insurance and why not be a bit friendly.
Bloke lent me his ute once.
Towed in another time after having an argument with an oversized roo. He glued the rad back together, on my bike next morning after sleeping on his floor.
Cost me very little but I made sure I flang him a carton next time I passed through.
Had a country servo back aways, you do come across some funny attitudes.
Take it easy.

Hey Jedo 03, please keep clear of me on the road! In Australia we drive on the LEFT, therefore going anticlockwise puts us on the inside, therefore the shorter route.
Also anticlockwise makes greater use of the prevailing winds. Stronger push across the bottom of Aust but the have a lesser effect in the north, or so I have been informed.

Post In the good ol' US of A
Geez Jedo
I was talking around Oz not America!!!
Then again, you could be like some of the drivers We've seen on this trip then it would, indeed, be shorter to go clockwise.

hi guys
we have installed LPG gas. especially for the 360 trip, will use gas wherever possible,

we will be travelling from perth up the north coast of wa to darwin,
left turn at tennant creek and the up to north q`land

does anyone know is lpg available in these remote places, if so do you know the prices.

many thanks Den & Dana
will be flying the yellow ribbon

Probably you should have asked this question before installation.

Depending where you go there may be no gas or it can be as much as $1 per litre in outback places The only really universally available fuel in the outback is diesel as its the trucks fuel and so it is always available.

I hope you still have the petrol option or you will be severly restricted in some places I would think.

During our trip which we have done going partly both ways so as to even it up LOL
We have found anomalies in fuel prices in unexpected places.
Eg at Erldunda it was much dearer than at Ayers Rock and Kings Canyon
when the truck would have to travel over 200k more to deliver it.

Wycliffe Well was the dearest diesel $1.75 Ayers Rock was $1.62 ( In May)
All the roadhouses on the Stuart were very expensive for both fuel and food like Dunmarra, Erldunda,Wycliffe Well and Three Ways.

At Nanuturra, Pies and sandwiches were about $8 each.

We carry two Jerry cans and use them when we need to top up between cheaper places.
Another thing to save money is get the little handook called "AMAZING NORTH"
In that there are discount vouchers for BP stations of up to 4c a litre which while not a lot all helps.

Also Woolworths Everyday cards are good cos if registered on line they email you offers and so far we have had 3 of 15c a litre discount.

There is a catch you have to buy $300 of goods (including liquor) in a specefied period to get it.
Coles also offer discounts so if you are careful you can cut costs a bit.

We are 22,000k into the big trip and have spent something like $3,000 on fuel alone.
