ATM Robberies

Post by Chonga » Sat Dec 07, 2013 4:09 pm

G'day All,

Was sent this today.
If it is accurate it is worth knowing.
Does anyone have connections that can verify this?

I am sorry Chonga, but it is false. Apparently this has been circulating since 2006.

Refer to the website Snopes,

http://www.snopes.com/business/bank/pinalert.asp

It has a comprehensive listing of this.

Would be great if it did exist.

Thanks Benny.

It sounded to be too good to be true so I thought I would ask.
Thanks for your prompt reply.

Thank God it's a Furphy as I have enough trouble remembering my PIN without having to punch it in backwards.

OJ, this is one method for choosing a PIN you will have no trouble recalling. Think of a favourite word. One that perhaps you associate with spending money. Could be wife eh? Or maybe mistress

Any word or pet name that will immediately come to mind. A 4 letter word is good but a longer word will do if you remember whether to use the first or last 4 letters.

Now using the chosen 4 letters look at your phone keypad (and of course you will always have a phone with you) mentally hit the letter keys and convert it to numbers. Example: floozie last 4 letters = 6943

Another way is to chose the day and month of an unforgettable occasion, like your wife or kid's birthday, or your wedding date..... hmmmm, no, that last one won't work

Use leading zeroes if single digit thus 25th of July would be 2507. You could chose to reverse that to 7052. Of course don't use your own birth day/month or anyone's year as that could be known

OT, my post was somewhat a tongue in cheek statement.

Figured that OJ, but it is a real issue for many people, particularly with multiple accounts/PINs.

Mostly though it was an opportunity for me to post about something and keep the forum ticking over. I am expecting some wedding anniversary date jibes ;-)

Any bank or IT pro will tell you not to use dates of any sort. However if you disguise them by adding an extra digit then that's fine; now all you have to do is try to remember the extra digit!!
