I don’t know if these are new or old, but I’ve not seen them until a few months ago at Mitre 10.

Four Plastic Caps, about $5-00 & they screw onto tubes of Silastic, Calking, No More Gaps etc.

I put one on a tube of Silastic a couple of months ago, opened it yesterday & Silastic “Good As New”.

Have used the Sikka versions of these for the last couple of years and have to agree with TT as I can shelve a half used tube of silicon and use it many months later and not even a dry/cured bit on the end. Had a tube of gal coloured silicone which was last used early March this year and just needed to use some more this month and still good.

They are available from Bunning’s in the southern states. I know not available in Cairns as I take dozens of packs up there each trip for my son to use.

When you buy your chosen silicon cartridge just make sure it has the fine threaded bit three quarters the way up the nozzle so you can screw on these red caps. If it has not, just unscrew the nozzle that came with your cartridge, go to the bulk nozzle bin and put it in there, fish though the bin and grab a nozzle that does have the fine thread bit and screw it on. Keep the red caps after the nozzle is finished with as these can be reused over and over if you have not over tightened them and stripped the threads.

When using, back of the plunger pressure, wipe excess off tip with paper towel and screw on the red cap, snug, do not over tighten.

Yes they fit all brands and all of those products packaged in the 300g DIY cartridge sizes you find at any hardware store.

They will not fit the professional products such as the specialist Sikka products that you would normally have to order in (such as the adhesive I used to stick down my solar panels) as these have a larger diameter and courser thread nipple due to the stiffer viscosity of these adhesives.

I’ve always just screwed a screw into the open nozzle and it seems to do the job, as long as it’s a tight fit.

We keep our silicon cartridges in the freezer. Keeps really well.
