Hi dieseltojo
It's a Viking shield. I wanted to update my avatar with a photo of the car and van, but could not get it small enough to use it, so I used this photo of Holger Danske instead :)
The photo of my mate is taken from a slide. I tried making it bigger, but the quality gets worse. Sorry.

Those were the days, no Waeco's back then... Even the "Family tents" were as heavy as,, all very heavy canvas.... And look at tents now...
Dad had a plywood van in the late 50's to mid 60's very crude by todays standards, no fridge but an Icebox and the stove was metho fuelled....
But Hey Hans they were fun days when you could be gay without it refering to your sexual preclivities...
You were "queer" in those days as I recall if you were limpwristed     ....

We had no floor in the tent, only a tarp and a kerosene stove to cook on.
Meat we bought daily or a can of Spam
Who has used one of these?

Oh yes the old primus kero stove... went well with the Tilley kero lantern....
All you heard at night was the hiss of the lanterns. Though we used to use them when "prawning" too...

Ahhh yes the Maurice Major.... Now if you had one of those today in good nick think of the dosh you could make hiring it out to the ABC for all its period tv shows.... At least in those days handbrakes worked on cars and remember when you went for your annual rego check you had to stop the car with the handbrake only which was tricky because those Pommy cars used to leave a trail of oil behind them which was easy to loose traction in...
