Post Stage 1 Tug mods.
We are doing some mods to the Discovery 4 in preparation for our Savannah Way trip next year.

Stage 1:

Longranger Aux fuel tank and a Kaymar rear bar for the spare wheel.

That lot is an eye watering $5400 fitted.

This is secluded to happen in early October. The next stage is wheels and tyres.

I cant believe how much these aftermarket suppliers charge and do you really need it ? The sons mate did the whole of Australia with a 80s model Hilux no mods and a $2000 camper trailer and the only problem he had was a broken towing pintle which he wired up with fencing wire to get to the next town.He had a ball and was a real adventure. But i suppose if you have the money and it makes life more comfortable go for it,me id rather ruff it old style like our pioneers.Cheers Neil

woodpecker

I have bit more time for a better response.

First point when I travel I want to do it comfort which is why I don't own an old HiLux....

The actual mods are not that expensive really based on the actual percentage of the actual cost of the car. I will spend less than 10% of the value of the car to achieve the outcomes I want.

The information posted here is for those who may be interested in doing similar mods to their tugs. Just about any new tug today will benefit from extra fuel capacity. If you are headed to more remote places then its almost mandatory that is unless you are happy to pay stupid prices for fuel in remote areas.

How much fuel will that give you on board in total? And did you have any other reasons for fitting the rear bar other then locating the spare wheel?

The Aux Tank is 104l the main is 85l.

The rear bar is for the spare. The Kaymar bar also has options for an extra spare or jerry can. I wanted a quality bar that can take some punishment.
