Geeeeeez Sid….. I didn’t expect to feature in a dedicated thread, but thank you kindly

I had the ultrasound at 1430 then off to the hospital hernia specialist for a 1600 appointment. Mr Cheah. He must be popular as it was 1715 before he worked through his queue and saw me.

The earliest scheduled hospital surgery he could fit me into is Feb 13th. He did say if I had any major issue in the meantime to call him to arrange an emergency admission. Local anaesthetic can be used but most people opt for a full general anaesthetic. Perhaps they don’t want to watch and listen to the procedure

So I have to be quite careful for 2 weeks….. and that is a real challenge

Good to hear OT. Someone got a bit stroppy because we were OT on another thread. So I started a new one.
Maybe I should have given the thread another name.

The medical people tell us we men don’t talk about mens heath enough. So maybe I should start another thread Mens Health. This is a caravan forum with a lot of members reaching that age where we need to look after ourselves.

Personally, I would pass on the look and listen.

However, I do have a cousin who is a nurse, and she would go for a local.

She recons if she ever had something requiring a general, for example a leg amputation, she would get out a niko pen and write all over her body.

This leg.

Not this leg.

You probably went for the local to save $$$$$ :D

Not quite sure why anyone would get upset about going OT.

Perhaps while you are knitting new threads Sid, you could start one about going OT? :D

Ot you’re lucky, they put me on a 365 day list, i wasn’t that bad, in fact when i got the call i wasn’t sure if i was going trough with it, but what the heck, better to get it done now than when i got older, is it keyhole surgery mine was. You say you’re going to be careful the next 2 weeks, don’t forget the 6 weeks or more after, i think that’s most important, or it will have to be done again :(
I had a colonoscopy some years ago, they asked if i wanted to see it on the monitor, no thank you, gross.

Good luck and take it easy.

Hans

Only a coupla weeks and you’ll be wondering what the fuss was about.
Maybe a little longer for the recovery but if you do as you’re told there’ll be no complications.
I guess they’ll be hooking in through a keyhole so that will certainly lessen the recovery time.
Probably home next day with strict orders on what you can/can’t do for the next few weeks.

Take care mate and don’t worry about it too much, no big deal these days ;-)

You probably don’t want to know this but there may be some videos on Youtube to show ya what they’ll be doing. 8-)

Sid,

Yeah a men’s health topic would good. Maybe admin could make it a sub-menu like cooks corner? I may send them a suggestion or Sid maybe you could as it was your idea? If men’s health had its own spot maybe more would open up? Dunno about ‘getting to that age’ though Sid. You don’t need to be old to have men’s health issues – although it definitely helps

MP,

I’d always worry if I was to have one of two things removed. There have been too many stories about taking the wrong one. I’d be out with the permanent marker. In fact I may put an arrow on ‘right side’ please ;-)

Lance,

The hernia surgeon said the Op would take about half an hour and needing only a small incision. He didn’t mention keyhole. I didn’t ask about how long in hospital. I figured I’d find that out when I submit the mountain of hospital paperwork I was given.

Hans,

To go on a 365 day list you must mean public hospital. I have private hospital cover and nice to get something back for the arm and leg they have taken in premiums over 20 years

Now I did ask about recovery time after the Op. I was thinking many weeks. The surgeon said that 6 to 8 weeks recovery time was old school. The rule these days is whenever you feel OK. He has some patients back at work after 3 days. One was greengrocer so not exactly light pen-pusher duties.

As for the pre-Op period of 2 weeks I made a makeshift hernia support from 2 lightweight elastic belts. I have ordered a proper one from Ebay and expected by this Friday. With this hopefully I can do a few light jobs. I can’t cope well with sitting around doing nothing :(

Good luck with the op OT, and in the mean time take it easy
let your brains do all the work that way when you’ve recovered you can get straight into it
