Post Re: Working around OZ share stories
Hi All,
My wife and I are a way off retirement age yet, unfortunately, but I’m planning and thinking about the prospect of a big trip around Oz. One of the questions in the back of my mind has been how to fund it and make money along the way, so this is a very interesting thread, thanks.

One question I’ve just thought of. Would it be an advantage to get licenses to drive various specialist vehicles now while I’m still working. Things like forklift, bob-cat, grader, etc.

I’m a computer guy by "trade" so might be able to get some work there, but want as many options as possible.

thanks,
Malcolm.

Post Re: Working around OZ share stories
Hi my wife and I are planning to head off early next year working and traveling. We are debt free and are planning to rent our home out. I am thinking working in the sugar harvest next year and would like to know if anyone has and can give me any information on it or any other harvests around Australia. I have a MC licence a fork lift ticket and an a mechanic by trade. I am hoping to work 6 months of the year and travel the rest. Any tips would be much appreciated.

Post Re: Working around OZ share stories
Hi Greg & Donna,

We sold up our house & belongings etc 19mths ago, leaving Wamuran Qld & now in Darwin…arriving 5 weeks ago. We are not retired & working our way around this beautiful country we all share. We are 52 & 54 respectfully & still wanting to work to fund our journey. We have a plan (lol) that is to work 3 months to fund our next 3 months travel. The harder we work the more $ to spend. Hubby"s speciality is in earthmoving..excavator / grader / dozer / truck etc & I am a dog groomer….haircuts etc. We had been 14 months in & around Clermont, Emerald Central Qld working. Decided it was time to move on so took 4 weeks to get to Darwin. Within 1 & 1/2 weeks of arriving hubby had a 5 & 1/2 day a week job & I have picked up a job @ the local woollies doing 40 hr a week. Just my take home wage for the next 3 months will get us 3 months of travel. We are loving this lifestyle & fingers crossed not having to much trouble finding work :)
Happy & safe travels to everyone
Tracey
