Post Parking at Spirit of Tassie terminal
hello
We are travelling to Tassie on wednesday evening 7.30.

We have heard there is limited parking at the terminal and as we will arrive in Melbourne around lunch time we will need
to find some parking until it s time to check in about 5.o’clock.

w are coming from the Mornington Peninsular and as we don’t know Melbourne or its roads could anyone suggest
how to get to the Port melbourne Terminal..We have a Navman but always worry about where it will take us.

would it be better to come a night earlier and stay in a van park near by…but we would still have time to kill until check in time so this would probably be a waste of money.

Are there any parks, shopping centres etc we could pass some time in and park the van safely

Mark and Is

Hi Mark.
Just stay on Beach road and it will take you straight to the terminal.
When you get close to it stay in the LEFT lane as the right lane is for traffic heading for the Port Melb, shopping centre.
Parking is a bit hard in any shopping area near the terminal but you can stop along Beach Rd or pull into a side street between say Mordialloc and St Kilda, one spot would be at Elwood where North Rd goes towards the beach and only 10 minutes from the ferry.

Forgot to add.
What ever you do DON’T go via MONTAGUE STREET.
There is a 3 mt. rail bridge that has seen a few vehicles turned into convertables. :o :o

Do not trust the Navman. When we did the crossing, we did a test run into Melbourne one morning without the van. Just as well, the Navman tried to take us up a oneway street, got itself completly lost and went round and round, until the police pulled us over out of sympathy, seeing our Queensland plates. We now have a Garmin. Brian.

They won’t need a GPS.
Coming from Mornington Peninsula they only need to turn left off the Nepean Hwy, as they cross the bridge over the Mordialloc Creek and then follow Beach Rd all the way to the terminal.

Yeah! I agree….You should be able to find parking around the St. Kilda Marina or even further back, at the Brighton Yacht Club. There’s been a fair bit on this subject already discussed on the Forum..Do a search…
Above all.. do not get to the terminal too early..it’s an absolute shambles…

Have a great trip.

Jock :)

As Jock said.BUT be aware that if you sit in the comfort of your van on The Esplanade area you will be in an area where there is parking limits and you may get a parking ticket and not know about it till you’re ready to leave. :o

When we went over in 09, we got to the terminal around 2pm, for the evening voyage. Found a parking spot easily, and then just bummed around till the gates opened.

But, we didnt have a van in tow.
