Hi Motherhen,

I’m pleased to see you sticking up for the site that you are involved with.
I looked at both sites and found that the http://www.caravancaravan.com.au/ website was better arranged for people who want to plan an itinerary.

Cheers CHONGA

Camperfam,
If you intend tavelling and camping for several months I suggest that you will quickly get tired of putting up and pulling down a tent.
Better idea is the camper trailer – goes up and down in seconds – usually has a comfortable double bed for mum and dad and room for the kids on the ground floor.
You can set it up with whatever equipment you need, and carry it all in the trailer section.
Make sure you buy one that you can lift up, so as to get into the trailer when it is packed – easier to load and unload.
We travelled in one for 3-4 & 5 months at a time and covered most of outback Aus – best way to see everything, in my opinion.
Keep an eye out after Xmas holidays you might find a good secondhand, one at a good price.

As for where to camp – just ask here giving your intended route and you will get plenty of suggestions.
Also look out for CAW 6 going out cheap as CAW 7 is due next month.

Jeff.

Post Re: Free camping guide
The camp 5 to Camp 7 books seem to be the favourite when it comes to free camping books for around Australia.
But!!!!! what other camp books would suit us Freedom Campers.
I have looked at 2 nd edition of Camping around Australia.
Are there any other worth while camping books that lists good free camps for Caravans..????
No doubt, I think it has been covered on this forum.
But any info would be appreciated.
Many thanks
Jay&Dee.

What more do you want Jay and Dee? At least with Camps Australia Wide (and the back up of updates on the website) you can have confidence that you can camp there as this aspect is checked. Things change quickly and an out of date publication can lead you astray when a camping are has been made day area only.

Talking of out of date publications, quite some years out of date now, for WA and NT the Jan Holland Priceless Campsites and Rest Areas are excellent. The not only have extra camp sites in them and a lot more description and detail, but the first hand tourism information is second to none. Jan Holland books were our tour guide until we reached Queensland. The books for the NT and the North of WA are still available through a number of outlets, but the one for the south WA is like hen’s teeth to find.
