Post Very portable hot water and shower unit
G’ day folks,
On a miserable cold and windy day and nothing better to do than trawl the www, I found this very lightweight and clever water heater come shower kit.
This has got to be better that the portable gas units I have seen and less complex.
Would work on a caravan stove top or the or even a camp fire.
Adaptable and lightweight, possibly good for caravanners with a bit of ozi ingenuity.

It’s called a ShowerCoil portable water heater and there is a bit on YouTube as well.

Quite pricey compared to a standard solar shower bag which can be filled with water accurately mixed to the right temperature using some hot water from a kettle.

My thoughts exactly MH… :) Boil the kettle, pour it in, have a shower…

I made something similar when I first started out, it was longer and fitted inside the exhaust pipe of my car, I would run the car to charge the camp battery and heat the shower water at the same time.

I made one of these about 10 years ago after seeing a readers idea in the Caravan World magazine. Used it on the camp fire. Found it not that successful and too much fiddling around so cut it up for toher uses.

Hhere’s a youtube video of it and some others next to it

If you’re handy, it wouldn’t be that hard to make and would be a lot cheaper than that unit.

Thanks for the post

Frank

There is a chap makes old fashioned technolgy "chip heaters" but they are a stainless steel contrivance, has a heater which is a cylinder with a water coil in it and a few hoses and a pump… Light a fire in the centre of the heater thing and once it gets going pump water thru it and adjust the water temp by adjusting the flow. It all packed away into itself and was no bigger than a large hose bag, He made them to order "Uffas Chuffer" I think it was called….

Thanks for bringing this one up again Trev
we have a sink bath most nights but when we want a shower, we now use a 20lt black container similar to this one
Attachment:
drum.jpg

fill it with water and place out in the sun
On a 26 degree day it reaches 32 or more degrees by the evening
Then pop in the 12v shower
Brenda likes a hot shower and goes first, uses about 10-12lt then I put in 5lt or so of cold water and have a shower
Great if your staying in one spot for the day
If not warm up water on the camp fire and use the 12v shower
