A forum software update has been implemented

Post by nimdA » Sat Oct 14, 2017 5:03 pm

Hi Members. You may be interested in knowing that the forum software is to be updated. IT have a new version running in a test mode and I have been asked to test and evaluate it. There are a few bugs in it at the moment but IT tell me this is to be expected. At this early stage I do not know when it will be ready to run for real but at least the task has begun. The update will be to the latest version of phpbb.

Cheers

Yay :!: :D

Hopefully (if it happens) that will fix some issues. For a couple of years I haven’t had an email alerting me to a PM. I don’t get an email if someone replies to my post. These things worked in the old days. I stopped reporting these issues yonks ago as admin said they were all too hard

Other people have complained about lack of a hover facility. I’m not fussed about that but obviously some others want it.

The fact that the forum seems to be getting some attention I thought a positive. We have been told here no funds, no IT staff, etc. No interest I reckon.

Frank, one thing about the forum, it has been very reliable for many, many months after that bad spell of falling over and also going very sloooooow – so perhaps your issue was something else? I’ve had no connection probs for a long time – touch wood ;-)

New forum layout looks good, new layout, colours etc. :D

Would be good to be able to delete posts within a time frame though, eg up to 10min after posting.

I still have the advertisements on both sides of my screen. How do I get rid of them.

Great new forum layout and easier/quicker to navigate. Well done admin. Agree with Scotty a “delete post” function could be helpful.

Hank I only have adverts on RHS side. Using 10.5 iPad Pro.

What is the other box at bottom LHS next to the “spanner” for as I don’t seem to be able to get anything to happen from it? I’m assuming to scroll to the bottom?

Use Adblock Plus, then no adds.

Hi members. As you can see the forum update has happened just after 9 am this morning.

IT explained to me there will be some teething issues with a major update like this one. I am reporting issues as I come across them. Some issues affect all users and some only affect moderators and admin accounts. I will list the broader all users issues here. It will be helpful if members would report any issues not listed below and include your browser in use as it may vary. Please post here or send me a PM.

Cheers

(1) advertising is covering some forum screens preventing some information from being seen.

(2) members cannot log out via their username pulldown at the very top right hand corner of the screen.
