Paper towel roll holder

Post by Old Techo » Tue Jul 31, 2018 3:51 pm

This is hardly innovative…. but it has taken me 14 years to think of it

Perhaps some still haven’t and grapple with a paper roll in a drawer or cupboard as I did for far too long?

All this needs as a short length of plastic conduit or dowel and either wire or cord supports and a couple of very small cup-holder screws.

In my case I used conduit and wire and at least one end must allow the wire to swing around so the paper roll can be slid over it.

Looks good but how do you stop it unrolling when you are on the move.

This is my effort,
I was given one of those old plastic roll towel holders but it was to narrow so I cut it in half and mounted it to a thin board

After first use I realised that it unrolled as we drove, being a bit slow to learn  it took twice to realise what was happening so, when I got home got the old think box to work and came up with the spring idea

The spring keeps pressure on the roll towel to prevent it unrolling as we drive, the hook on the bench in the first picture is to attach to the spring when changing the roll to a new one and pull the spring through

Having just made it here at Charters Towers it has not been road tested.

I had made a cork that fitted firmly inside the paper roll centre jamming it against the conduit that cannot rotate but I decided that would not stop the whole thing from swinging about – although that didn’t seem to pose any risk.

As I had some spare cup hooks I added a couple to hook a small bungy cord across the roll to stop both unrolling and swinging.

OK, I’ll bite. How do you attach a peg to a toilet roll?
