ladies comments for new travellers

hi ladies i have been reading these forums for awhile now and i am a full book on generators, water tanks, boots etc etc, and i watch my partner drool over these topics and read them all and i must admit i read them as well BUT… now i thought a new thread for the ladies to check and look at…. thats if you can get him off the computer, is the go. so how bout you telling all of us what you do. we all learn something every day. ok the men will be all laughing by now and leaving this thread and bless them i couldnt do what they do, and i dont want to. i am best at playing fetch or being the supervisor. so ladies i will start this……where do you get your hair done on the road, what do you wear and what shoes do you take and how many pairs, how much food do you take and do you plan your meals for days when you freecamp, whats for tea tonight on the road, what do you read and do you recycle them by leaving them in c/ps for other people to read, do you play games like scrabble are there any good shops for food or clothes on your travels, unusual foods you have tried, restaurants,museums etc etc etc you all get the picture by now so come on tell us all you want and know. lots of us are waiting………sue

What a good idea…..
Although we are still waiting for the BIG trip, when we are away I prefer to turn off the TV and listen to the radio. I am amazed at the number of great music programs on radio (especially ABC). We sometimes play cards or board games but most importantly we talk – well mostly I talk and Stuart listens as all good husbands should!!
There a lots of retired hair dressers on the road and most have a little sign in front of their van – look around for it or ask.
As for clothes – I am not sure about that on a long trip. A girl friend of mine went around Australia over about 12 months and what they did was started out with three old outfits and 1 good one. Each time they came to a town with a Vinnies or Lifeline shop she traded two sets in on “new” ones and so on till she got home so never got sick of the same clothes over the entire trip.
Regarding meals – this story has been hashed around for a while. I use my Dream pot and try to do enough for 2 night at one go.
Of course all this depends on how long you socialise over the “Happy Hour”

Having not been on a long trip yet I don’t take too much stuff. I wouldn’t be without my moccasins and dressing gown though lol. I only own 4 pairs of shoes and mostly live in Rivers sandals.
As far as hairdressers go I have my scissors and a mirror. Only ever go to a hairdresser if I get a gift voucher.
We don’t often play games, prefer sitting under the awning and chatting til all hours.
I have taken magazines and books along but never seem to get round to reading them.
Dinner is usually me asking hubby what he wants. His reply is ‘I don’t know’. So its steak on the bbq or a casserole or some seafood. We don’t tend to plan too much and half the food I take in the fridge comes home with us.

old tech thanks but keep reading what these ladies write and you will learn something i am sure……i have been know also to take to myself with the scissors but only the fringe and i buy $2.oo slippers and wear them everywhwere in van and when i have had my $2.oo worth they go in the bin. i have crocs and wear them in free camp or anywhere as you can wash them easy, i dont like the look of them but they are sooooo comphy. we also go to op shops in our travel and have picked up some great things and books. WE love happy hour and yes we talk and laugh all the time. we listen to the abc especially macca on sundays. other times we play country and western or rock music. TRAILERS FOR SALE OR RENT ROOMS TO RENT 50 CENTS……. is franks song when he drives away from any place to usually laughs or thumbs down. we have been know to eat so many nibblies we cant eat tea after happy hour. and yes we love seafood especially mussels on the bbq. ok now have to let king of the road on computer.

Do you drive or just navigate, i dont drive cos he loves it and i secretly dont think he trusts me is more like it. i have a diary and write all the prices of fuel and how much it takes. i have just recently got a wireless laptop and we are just learning how to use it and look at it for the weather and whats in the next town. we even watch movies on it or listen to music. we send the family photos and try to make them jealous. i have webcam on it as well and talk to the grandkids.

forgot to say we are sport fans aswell and have loaded and payed $14.00 for 3 years to watch all sports live especially the AFL when we can in non AFL states. go the DOCKERS…… YES I CAN HEAR THE BOOS FROM HERE. just activated it and cant work poperly yet my brother watches the footy when hes overseas so have to ask him for help.

Not a footy fan but come Bathurst I’m parked in front of the tv for the duration lol. I drive when I can get him out of the drivers seat and yes I can back a caravan too.
We have the laptop and on longer trips have used it for the same things as well as writing our blog for the family to follow. I have to check in most days as I am one of 3 volunteer distributors for Operation Photo Rescue in the US. That only takes 20mins a day though.
We have converted our 13yo from doof doof music to good old AC/DC, Jimmy Barnes, even Creedence. She didn’t have a choice but ended up loving it more than the current stuff.

Great idea Sue! There’s plenty of us ladies on this forum who wear the caravan pants in the family. LOL

We’ve been on the road for 11 months & a bit, so I’ve got a few bobs to add as well, but for now will say ‘Goodnight’ & go off a read a magazine I picked up in a cp laundry.

Hi Girls
Its soooo good to have our own thread, I am jealous of all of you who are travelling around . Havent sold our Business yet, but have had some nibbles.
Mal and I love being outdoors, enjoying what is around us, when we do get our van he will be the driver, as I cant drive anymore. We are a very happy and relaxed couple, nothing much phases us and we both have a wicked sense of humour.

I dabble in various crafts and I have so many UFP (unfinished projects), when it comes to downsizing there may be a few problems, lots of craft books, and Mal has agood selection of Caravan and Motorhome Magazines. We both love fishing, Mal loves fossicking, reading in fact we put our mind to anything, no stress, our favourite saying to anything that might be a problem is who cares, or tell someone who cares

Cooking, we will let our tummys decide what we eat Mal keeps teasing me saying we will pick up whatever road kill we pass on the way lol….
We have been married for 36 years on 21st December and we both know what the other is going to say.

I must say that my hubby is the most patient and caring person I have known ,he had to look after me through two major illnessess, one was Guillian Barre Syndrome, where I had to learn to walk all over again and just last year I had half my left lung taken out due to lung cancer, but each time he gets me through it. Our policy is we can beat anything they throw at us. We look forward to seeing you all on the road
