Helps Prevent Nylon Rope Knots Coming Undone

Post by tar trekka » Sun Sep 02, 2018 7:28 pm

Hi there,

I’ve found that knots in Nylon Rope has a habit of coming undone.

I make a Loop on the end of the Rope for an “Awning Guy Rope” & it comes lose or undone.

My solution, cover the Knot with two layers of “Heat Shrink”, Shrink it Down” & it stays “Knotted”.

Heat Shrink is available in many sizes & colors at Jaycar & it’s not expensive.

The texture of the rope doesn’t rub through the heat shrink ?

Hi there,

Actually, I “Double Knot” then use Heat Shrink.

The Heat Shrink seems to last quite well, but it’s “Cheap & Easy” to replace.

You can get “Extra Thick Walled” Heat Shrink, however sizes & colours seem to be limited at Jaycar.

How thick is your nylon rope. I just use a simple fishing knot. 3 or4 turns around the standing line and put the working end through one of the loops ..pull tight. You could put a half hitch around the standing line just to be sure.
