ACT REGO COSTS TO BE CUT IN HALF – WILL THEY GO THROUGH WITH IT?

Vanners living in the ACT could finally get some rego relief, after Chief Minister Andrew Barr promised to halve registration costs to align them with NSW.

Now this is something we’ve spoken about quite a bit lately, and we couldn’t be happier to see a minister finally listening to the outcries of vanners all over the state and taking a positive step forward. As Minister Barr said, “it currently costs $1280 a year to register a caravan with a tare weight of 2505 – 2795 kilos in the ACT – this would drop to $640 per annum.”

That’s a huge drop in costs and one that RVers will be keenly holding on to, especially since ACT has long been known for having the highest registration fees in the country, often forcing RVers to think of registering elsewhere or even moving!

One thing we’re really disappointed about is the fact that Minister Barr does not mention self-propelled vehicles at all, meaning there’s still motorhome owners missing out on these huge savings! We understand that this is a start – and a great one at that – but we would love to see everyone benefit from these cuts. One thing that these Ministers may not realise is that an extra $640 in every caravanners pocket means that small towns and communities will hugely benefit from RVers, who finally have the means to spend a bit extra in local communities.

The election is happening as we speak and we’re keenly awaiting to hear whether this promise is fulfilled or whether it will fall through like so many election promises that us RVers hear.
