SELF-CONTAINMENT STRONG ARM – ARE THINGS GOING TOO FAR?

fc1

Before I start, let me just say that I have the utmost respect for the CMCA, the ACC and, what their initiatives to promote camp cleanliness – it’s good that we all have a polite reminder of this from time to time. What I don’t appreciate is finding a camp site with a huge sign stating “self-contained vans only” in bold lettering. I’ve found in some circumstances that campers have been forced to move on, despite collecting grey water in 25L buckets because they didn’t have “the correct grey water storage installed,” punishing campers that are trying to responsibly camp - what utter rubbish. Furthermore, I question just how negative the impact of watering the plants with a bit of grey water is, especially in drought-stricken communities. Where’s the hard evidence? I, for one, am finding that this strong-arm approach to making everyone self-contained to be a bit much.

What do you think? Is self-containment really the way forward for everyone, or should freedom of choice on the matter still be of the most importance? Email and let me know.
