Scott Irvin from Coromal Caravans Central Coast was excited to show us the new Coromal Magnum. The pop-top incorporates many of Coromal’s important features with some styling changes. The quality and appeal of the European-design furniture combined with alterations to the external body styling brings the Magnum to a new level.

We towed the Magnum with a Toyota HiLux SR5, which never knew the van was behind it. This caravan has been designed for towing behind a Commodore, Falcon or mid-sized SUV.

EXTERNAL

The Magnum’s makeover includes the addition of a rear window over the bedheadand new tail-light surrounds. The gas bottle has moved to the awning side in the boot, allowing for a slide-out battery box on the offside.

The boot lid remains one of the best in the industry, providing an oversized fibreglass lid with gas struts – a true waterproof boot. It has two locks and is lined and sealed to store gas bottles (gas approved). The vinyl stoneguard reaches up to the boot lid, granting good stone protection.

Coromal builds its vans with an extruded aluminium frame and internal lining plus aluminium cladding bonded and riveted to the frame. The ply floor is bonded and fastened to the chassis, and there is a galvanised steel plate above the main door to provide added strength.

The Magnum’s full-length galvanised steel chassis coupled with Coromal’s unique independent suspension provides a sturdy platform for towing.

The pop-top roof is full length for plenty of head height throughout the caravan when the roof is lifted. The Magnum is a low-profile RV for towing, and at only 2080mm, is one of the lowest-profile pop-tops on the market.

The Carefree roll-out awning comes as standard, running the full length of the pop-top to allow for plenty of external space. The door is well protected from the rain as we discovered on the day of our photo shoot!

INTERNAL

The Magnum pop-top is set up for the average vanner to venture for places unknown. It’s got all the essential items for travel, and you can add any extras you want to make your journey even more luxurious.

The bedroom has an extending double bed to provide extra walking space during the day. Gas struts lift the bed up nice and high, providing excellent access to the storage underneath.

There are robes at the side of the bed and two cupboards well placed at the foot of the bed for all those extra little items we all need to carry. One of these holds the CD/radio. Speakers are provided in the ceiling.

The kitchen is very convenient with a large bench area, deep-bowl stainless steel sink, well-positioned microwave, a 90L Dometic three-way fridge and cooktop with four burners (one electric, one gas) plus a grill. There are four easy slide-out drawers under the sink and one for pots below the stove. The pullout pantry is located near the door.

There is a 12V pump to provide water at the sink when not on mains pressure. The European-style furniture gives a nice clean look to the whole unit. The internal cabinetry is finished well, so no splinters are going to attack you.

The bench tops are made from solid ply with plastic edging all around. The cupboard above the fridge has provision for a split system air-conditioner should the purchaser want to install one at a later date.

A pressure hatch in the ceiling keeps the dust out when travelling. The toilet storage provision is located under the bed. All lights operate off 12V and there is an optional 100Ah battery fitted to the unit.

The review van features red-toned furniture, silver venetians (optional) and matching silver handles on light timerlook cupboards. There are many colour combinations if this is not to your liking and curtains come as standard.
