If you’re currently on the road and think you would like to pick up some work to cover those extra little indulgences, an opportunity exists for retired but registered primary school teachers to undertake paid contract work with Education Queensland in the Wide Bay-Burnett Region.

A very comprehensive Literacy training program is currently being rolled out state-wide providing a wide range of opportunities for qualified teachers to undertake supply/contract work. Consequently, an invitation is being extended to all recent retirees, especially those with their own mobile accommodation, to undertake contract work in a range of locations for negotiated periods of time.

Contract work from two weeks to a term may be available to cover teachers participating in the Literacy training sessions. As this training program is currently placing demands on our current supply list of teachers available to cover intermittent sick leave, as an alternative to contract work, you may wish to add your name to the supply list and undertake supply days to cover sick leave.

Applicants will require registration with the Queensland College of Teachers (formally the Board of Teacher Registration). The College can be contacted on 1300 720 944 or (07) 3377 4777. Or on their website at www.qct.edu.au

The Wide Bay-Burnett Region extends from Agnes Waters in the north, to Gympie and the Mary Valley in the south and westward into the Burnett Region, including the greater areas of Monto, Mundubbera, Gayndah and Kingaroy.

Both contract work and supply day vacancies may occur in the following
locations and dates.

16 July - 7 September 2007                 Hervey Bay and Maryborough
19 September - 21 September 2007     Gayndah
8 October - 30 November 2007           Bundaberg
4 February - 4 April 2008                    Gympie
12 May - 6 June 2008                          Kingaroy

Currently, planning for this program extends until June 2008, however it is anticipated that this training program will continue until 2009 as the training extends into upper primary and junior secondary.

Interested applicants can email Yvette Reilly for an application form at yvette.reilly@deta.qld.gov.au  from 9th July. Please ensure you have full registration with the Queensland College of Teachers before making an application.
