In a letter from VR Davis from Narangba in Queensland, which was published on page 20 of issue 98 of Caravan & Motorhome magazine, reference is made to the Maroochy Palms Holiday Village. The letter was inspired after reading an article in Brisbane’s Courier Mail called Van Land Draws Rich Developers, which was published on Saturday the 28th of October 2006. The Courier Mail article deals with caravan park closures in Queensland, specifically about developers pushing to buy prime real estate land that many caravan parks occupy. One of the van parks mentioned in the Courier Mail article is the Maroochy Palms Holiday Village. In the article, the owner is interviewed and has said that increased land taxes are putting them under pressure. It also mentions that developers have been knocking at the van park’s door. The owner further comments that inevitably they’ll be gobbled up by developers. VR Davis in his/her letter discusses the Courier Mail article saying, “Maroochy Palms on the Sunshine coast is apparently one to go. This park is big, clean, well run and in a prime position. The Big4 outfit is popular with visitors from all over Australia, not just south-east Queensland. The park will go, one presumes, just to satisfy the hip pocket. Fair enough I suppose.” The Maroochy Palms Holiday Village is not being sold at the time of writing. It is completely operational and as VR Davis wrote, “it is big, clean, well run and in a prime position.” However, it does illustrate the point that many other van parks in prime locations are closing. The Courier Mail article says that 60 have already closed and another 100 are under serious threat in Queensland.
