Hymer Australia has taken aim at the heart of Australia’s booming motorhome market with the launch of the new T-Class Tramp GT.

With a recommended retail price of $149,990, the Tramp GT will bring high-end European quality to the most popular price segment of the motorhome market.

Motorhomes are the fastest-growing segment of Australia’s recreation Vehicle (RV) market, particularly in the “sun-belt” states of Queensland, the Northern territory and Western Australia.

In 2005–06 motorhome sales in Queensland grew by 40 per cent.

Hymer Australia says motorhomes are becoming increasingly popular with the growing bands of “grey nomads” plying Australia’s tourist routes.

“Many grey nomads are cashed-up and looking for a quality prestige vehicle,” says Hymer Australia’s marketing manager Richard Towson.

The Tramp GT is a semi-integrated design based on the Mercedes-Benz Sprinter 316 platform. Mr Towson describes Hymer as the Mercedes-Benz of the RV industry. “Like all Hymers, the Tramp GT will sell on its exceptional quality and attention to design detail,” he said.

The Tramp is built using Hymer’s patented PUAL sandwich construction – resulting in thicker and stronger walls, roofs and floors with greater insulating properties and less weight.

Other thoughtful design features include a larger than average 800 x 500 mm panoramic roof vents, automotive standard storm-proof rubber door seals and an electrically lowered entrance step. Interior features include swiveling “captains” chairs for driver and passenger and high-density foam seating with Teflon-coated upholstery and removable covers.

Mr Towson says motorhomes like the Tramp are more popular than caravans in Europe, the United States and New Zealand.“They are easier to drive, much easier to park, and allow users to stop more frequently and spontaneously.”

The T-Class Tramp joins the more expensive Hymer S-Class and B-Class, both of which were launched on the Australian market in April 2006. “Consumer interest in Hymer since launch has been extremely strong and sales have only been constrained by supply,” Mr Towson said.
