Performance Chip for Toyota Hilux

Post by pete and poss » Wed Jun 29, 2011 4:47 pm

Hi, has anyone put a performance chip into a Toyota Hilux Diesel common rail. I would be pleased to receive any comments as to what make you purchased, what you thought of the performance after fitting and did you install a larger exhaust .Any comments both positive and negative will be gratefully received.

Hi Pete,

Haven't done a hilux but did my 2008 Colorado 2 weks ago and found it to be worthwhile. I haven't towed the van yet but had a chip and new exhaust done in Brisbane and drove back to Rockhampton, had heaps of power and didn't drop back gears going through any of the hilly bits on the way back.
Last week I towed my heavy work trailer 4 times and noticed better pulling power and slightly better fuel economy. The big test will come when the van goes on the back. AMMS in Brisbane did the work and the total cost was $3000. I wasn't really worried about fuel economy i wanted the extra power and torque.

AMMS do a chip i think it's called Roo Systems, one they did themselves after a fair bit of development and the exhaust is a Mandrel bent one. AMMS advertise in the C&M magazine and i had heard good reports about their work so was happy to trust them. Holden did my service today, and as i handed them the keys told them about the upgrade and they said it would be ok the service was the 100,000klm one though so end of warranty.

Thanks Dean, the one I am looking at is a Sterling 4x4 chip with a matching exhaust system and so there is no need to do a dyno tune after the fitting of the chip. The total cost all up fitted is $2200.

Hi Pete and Poss,

I has a "chip it" fitted to my Navara D40 by Howell Automotive in Moonah.

No exhaust upgrade yet - don't see the need at this stage.

I carry at least a couple of hundred kilos of tools each day, and that, along with all my off road accessories has really increased the weight of my navara. The chip has really helped.

When towing our van, I have gained at least one gear.

Gidday Pete and Poss, I have just had a DPCHIP and Snorkel fitted to my 07 Hilux . The performance increase is very noticeable. I am on holidays at the moment, towing a 17ft full caravan. I am very happy with the Hilux. My fuel consumption has varied from 12.8 litres to 16litres per 100km depending on the conditions. I had the work done by TJM Newcastle. The increase in performance is between 1500rpm and 3000rpm. Once again, I am very happy with the performance.
Regards
Alvik.
