Any free or cheap camping between Sydney and Goulburn

Post by not grey nomads yet » Sun Feb 10, 2013 9:07 am

We are off to Newcastle this coming weekend to pickup our new van (JB Caravan Scorpion), as we live in Canberra, I think we will be really pushing it to get there, pickup the van with full instructions about 2-3 hrs and back home in one day, so looking at getting through Sydney and camping maybe just outside of Sydney.

Checked the Camps book nothing there until close to Goulburn, which then we may as well travel another 1 hr to home.

Thanks in advance.

Have a look at site 557 in Camps 6 titled French VC Rest area. We drove into it a couple of years ago for a looksee and it seemed good if you go as far away from the Hwy as possible.
I assume you will use the M2/M7 to bypass most of Sydney?

Why not go inland on your way back? Newy, Gulgong, Wellington, Molong, Cudal, Cowra, Boorowa, etc.
Gulgong showground is a good cheap camp, but show on this weekend. No scarcity of others on that route though and it's a nice drive

We always stop at Belanglo State Forest at the Days Rd Campground (-34.52749,150.24142), but that will be too close to Goulburn for you ?? It's farther from Goulburn than Wingello SF.

Try Camp 546a Berrima Reserve not free but only $15 per night was added to the Camps 6 book looks good on google earth 34 29 09s 150 19 57e we are heading south in a week or two and will be trying it. Payment is made by phone/credit card or in person all the info is on a sign at the reserve (I made a phone call as I had been told it was closed but that was only for a short time when there was some fires nearby,
