February gathering....Gippsland, Vic ?

Post by Lance » Sat Sep 02, 2017 9:47 pm

I mentioned on another forum the possibility of a gathering in the Gippsland area of Vic sometime in February and there's been a bit of interest shown.

Anyone here think it's a good idea and want some info ?

No plans, exact location or date as yet, but............. ;-)

Hi Lance, a nice idea but not for me mate.

Some times members use the occasion for surprising opportunities. Sort of reminds me of some break up parties. Some times animosity lies in the strangest places

I once took my wife to a forum gathering and having traveled over 1200 klm to get there, attended the first evenings get together and introductions.
Bearing in mind I knew many of the folk due to forum contacts (but not personally), we looked forward to meeting my on line acquaintances.

Out of the blue, during that first ten minutes my wife and I were told we were road lice for being cyclists etc. All due us being casual cyclists and I happen to be well briefed on cyclist laws and made some casual comments on a cycling post. Pretty uncomfortable for us and my wife wanted to leave the next day.

Apologies from some members later, but not from a section that agreed with the person involved. And all over a minor matter of a couple of posts only. Certainly not a forum arguement.

The wind is gone from my sails as regard future gatherings I'm afraid.
I now have to note that I cannot accept owners ship, truth, quality, or veracity, of articles I may quote off the internet.

Yeah, fair enough Paul ;-)
There are 'dicks' in all groups aren't there but I can understand your point.
No excuse for that sort of behaviour from those who consider themselves adults.

We'll catch up with ya somewhere, sometime 8-)

Paul, I believe there are road lice and there are cyclists
Cyclists are those who use road rules and care for other road users, having met you I believe you are in that group
The road lice are those who use up as much of the road as possible because it is their right and other road users have to put up with their antics and road rules do not apply to them
I ho p e that the meeting you mention is not the one where we met, amd if it is I'm appalled that it happened there

Lance, this february is no good for us as we are away in Qld at the moment and my boss would not take kindly to me taking time off in term 1
We're hoping to have time off in term one in a couple of years so maybe then

In the mean time there is also a gathering planned in Crystal Brook SA 2 weeks after Easter, if you're (or anyone else) interested in that let me or Mick themungrel know

Lance, this going to be just a BBQ afternoon or a van in WE?

Have not been there but Glen Cromie Park just north of Drouin might be worth a look.

I'm thinkin a long weekend perhaps ?
Individuals could make that as long as they like but ours would only be 3 days due to work.
Personally I'd prefer a bush camp rather than a park.
We've done Glen Cromie a couple of times and have enjoyed it but it's a bit too 'organised' for us.
But a nice park all the same.

Any official long weekend will be busy.......
On a plus, plenty of overflow area at Hazelwood pondage.

Lance. I think a get together is a good idea. There have been attempts in the past to get one going. It seemed to fail because no one could settle on a date or place. I think the best way is for you to pick a date and place and say here it is come if you can. Some won't be able to come. But regretfully that can't be helped.

Correct bm.
I was meaning we create our own long weekend ;-)
I don't like crowds either.

OK, how about the 3rd weekend in Feb 2018, that's 17-18th ?

We'll be there from the Friday morn, 16th til Sunday midday when we head across to Yinnar for Ukulele sessions.
Camping will be at the free camp at the Boolarra Community Hotel.
Plenty of room and I'll organise for the Toilets to be left open for us.
As yet they don't have a freestanding block for campers but I know people ;-)
