While travelling around the Hunter Valley over Easter, I ventured to Harrigan’s Irish Pub for a Good Friday dinner. The place was so full of punters that the only place we could find a seat was outside. It was a pretty cold day, so a warm and hearty meal was just what the doctor ordered.

I got the bangers and mash – Irish pork sausages served on a bed of creamy mash. With plenty of gravy on top, it was beautiful.

I thought I would tell you guys about some bush tucker I have had here in Darwin.

Yesterday I ate part of a fresh water lily! Yes, as in straight from a freshwater river. It is an important food source for Aboriginal people.

They pick the outer strings off, then nibble on the stalk like a piece of celery. It has a lovely fresh taste, and is very refreshing and hydrating.
