PHOTOSHOP
Adobe Photoshop is a VERY powerful piece of imaging software. There really is no limit as to what you can do with a photo, but I want to discuss the more practical side of things in regard to post processing. Because of the nature of digital photography, the editing of images to a professional standard is essential. It is possible to set up automatic in-camera profiles that will add some contrast and colour saturation but I believe the control you can achieve by doing it yourself is a far better option.
The first thing most digital images need is a bit of sharpening. They then need the desired amount of contrast, lightening or darkening and finally some colour adjustment and saturation. You also have the option for a million other things but these are the main ones. If there is dust showing up you can get rid of it, you can take out scratches, wrinkles and even people. Then it’s up to you what you want your image file and resolution to be saved as.
If you have never used Photoshop before it can look a little daunting at first but with a few simple tutorials you can be off and running. You can simply go online at www.photoshoptutorials.ws/ There are also many great short courses available if you really mean business, which is what I did and I wouldn’t have the job I love without doing that.
The most current version is Adobe Photoshop CS3, which I recommend but any version will do the job. Good luck and give it a shot, it’s a great tool and a whole bunch of fun as well!
