Up Close

Macro photography is a lot of fun and allows you to look at objects in a different perspective.

Special macro lenses are available, which are designed for this type of photography. Some zoom lenses also come with a macro option, like my Sigma 28-80mm.

When shooting macro images, I always flick the lens over to the macro option and have been quite happy with my results.

If you’re not confident with using the Av and Tv modes on your camera, you can go for the macro mode or the program mode and you will more often than not get fine pics. However, if you want to get a little creative, then you’ve got to use your Av and Tv modes. You’ll probably want to use a small aperture to freeze the item, particularly if it is a flower and it’s a little windy. Or if you’re going for the effect of movement, you’ll want a larger aperture.

I took these photos while I was sitting in the car on a raining day. The water drops create beautiful patterns on the window and make for an interesting photo.
