To tow or not to tow, that is the question?
This is quite a controversial topic at the moment, with caravan/trailer towing courses popping up all around town.
A towing course is designed to acquaint drivers with towing conditions and covers practical towing, reversing and maneuvering, vehicle reactions, towing hazards, towing aids, loading and towing laws.
Many of us certainly feel like novices, and may have been towing for years, therefore finding the course to be unnecessary. After all, can you really teach an old dog new tricks?!
But with caravanning becomming more and more popular, new-comers hitting the roads everyday, and roads constantly changing, towing isn’t always predictable.
A course could be a great confidence-booster for first time towers, as well as attracting those that might find starting out alone to be daunting. It could also be a great refresher for more experienced vanners. It really is up to you.
By no means is obtaining a caravan/towing license compulsory (yet), but I think it really can’t hurt. It can be looked as, as yet another expense to add to an already expensive lifestyle (equipment-wise), but I guess it depends on how much value you place on safety. As they say ‘it’s better to be safe than sorry…’
